Celebrating its 10th year, RED (Rise Every Day) January is a nationwide community initiative with the goal of empowering people to move every day throughout January to boost their mood.
As well as supporting the mental well-being of participants, RED January is a fundraising initiative which has raised more than £3.2 million for mental health and movement related projects to date. In 2025, RED January is partnering with Mind Over Mountains, a charity which offers mental health support whilst walking in nature in the UK.
RED January is open to all and is completely free. You can participate as an individual or take on the challenge with friends, family and colleagues, supporting change in UK communities by adding to the millions of pounds already raised for mental health charities. You can sign up here!
RED's Founder, Hannah Beecham MBE, shares:
"To rise every day means to begin each day with the intention of moving in a way that works for the individual and their lifestyle - it’s never one size fits all. Rise to your own challenge of walking, dancing, stretching, running or cycling - whatever works for you and makes you feel good. Together, we can turn a dark time of year into something positive and bright!"
University of Oxford research shows that more than half of participants experience a significant improvement in happiness and a reduction in anxiety during the month of January, with 74% reporting that they are more active than usual.
